What will the water conditions be on race day? Water temperature is expected to be between 75 – 80 degrees. Races are downriver with current, except for the first 400 yards of the 1 mile, which will be upriver.

What is the expected air temperature for race day? Low 65, high 85 degrees.

Will the race be held in the rain? Yes, if it is a light rain and no lightning. The Safety Director will monitor weather conditions. If extreme weather comes through, it is at the Safety Director’s discretion to cancel the race.

What kind of starts and finishes will each race have? All races will have in-water starts and finishes. Six orange buoys will mark the in-water finish gate. For the 1 and 2.4 mile races - after the swimmer finishes, they will exit the river via the Market Street boat ramp. For the 9.2 mile race, swimmers will exit at the Baylor School boat ramp.

Where does each race start and finish? 1 mile – from GPS boat dock to Market Street bridge; 2.4 mile from Chattanooga Golf & Country Club to Market Street bridge; 9.2 mile from GPS boat dock to Baylor School.

Can I register on race day? Sorry, no. Due to logistics, we cannot accept late entries. Entry deadline is May 22.

Do I have to be a USMS member to register? Yes. If you are not an annual member, you can purchase a One-Event USMS registration for $20 during the registration process. However, you are not eligible to swim in the National Championship heat unless you are an annual member. Go to www.usms.org/reg/ for annual memberships.

Can I get a refund if I can’t attend? No, we cannot issue refunds. However, you can transfer your entry to another person if you do it by May 25th. If you need to transfer, contact Jay Nevans at jay@edgereg.com.

Can I switch race distances after I have signed up? Yes, except for the 9.2 mile if the race is full. To switch, contact Jay Nevans at jay@edgereg.com.

Are there participant limits for each race? The 9.2 is limited to the first 120. There is no limit for the other 2 races.

When and where do I pick up my race packet? Outdoor Chattanooga in Coolidge Park, 200 River Street, Chattanooga, TN 37405. 423-643-6888. Check-in will be open the following times: Friday, June 2 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. (all races); Saturday, June 3 from 7:15 - 8:00 a.m. (2.4 mile); 7:15 – 11:00 a.m. (9.2 mile); Sunday, June 4 from 7:15 to 8:00 a.m. (9.2 mile)

What time do the races start? 1 mile – 6:30 p.m.; 2.4 mile and 9.2 mile – 8:30 a.m.

Is there a time limit? Yes. 1 mile – 1.5 hours; 2.4 mile - 3 hours; 9.2 mile – competitors must be at the halfway mark within 3 hours.

When and where can we warm-up before the race? 1 mile - 5:45 p.m. - 6:20 p.m. along the North Shore from the GPS dock upstream about 400 yards and back; 2.4 mile - 7:45- 8:15 a.m. along the North Shore from the finish under the Market Street bridge to the Blue Rhino Kayak steps and back; 9.2 mile - 7:30-8:00 a.m. along the North Shore from the GPS dock upstream about 400 yards and back.

Will there be an awards ceremony?  Yes, 15 minutes after the last finisher for the 1 and 2.4 mile; 30 minutes after the majority of swimmers have finished the 9.2 mile.

Who will receive awards? For the championship heats, the top 6 finishers in each age group and gender will receive a medal. For the non-championship heats, the top 3 finishers in each age group and gender will receive a medal. In addition, the top 3 overall finishers in each race will receive an award in both the championship and non-championship heats.

For those competing in all three races (championship or non-championship heats), awards will be given for the five fastest combined times for male and female.

Age groups are 18-24, 25-29, and so on in 5 year increments.

Are wet suits allowed? Yes, if the water temperature is below 78 degrees. However, swimmers in wet suits will not be eligible for awards.

Is there a bag check? There will be a designated bag drop off. Exact location will be discussed at the swimmer briefing.

Will medical services be on-site? An emergency medical tent will be at the finish line at all races.

Where can we park for the races? For the 1 mile, we recommend you park in the parking garage across Frazier Avenue next to Regions bank, as the lot next to Outdoor Chattanooga will be closed, except for theater parking. For the 2.4 mile, the paid lot next to Outdoor Chattanooga will be open ($5 for the entire day). And you can also utilized the parking garage across Frazier Avenue next to Regions Bank. For the 9.2 mile race, there is free parking at the Baylor School lower lot (which is the race finish). For parking maps, click here.

How close is the host hotel from the start/finish? All hotels on the website are within 3 miles of the race start.

Where can friends watch the race? For the 1 mile and 2.4 mile swims, spectators will be able to view the races from the water’s edge along Coolidge Park. Spectators can also walk across the Market Street and Walnut Street bridges to view the races from above. Additionally, the South Shore’s Tennessee Riverwalk and the steps in front of the Tennessee Aquarium offer additional viewing locations.

For the 9.2 mile, the first portion of the race will be visible from the water’s edge along Coolidge Park and from the Walnut Street bridge. The finish will be visible from Baylor School.
